Labware Glassware
Having equipment for Wine Testing, whether for simple and basic tests in your home cellar or for a commercial wine lab is a crucial step to ensuring that the chemistry of your wine is where it needs to be to produce the best wine possible. Our line of winemaking lab glassware, including serological and volumetric pipettes, graduated cylinders, erlenmeyer and volumetric flasks, and beakers, will help ensure you have the containers and extractors you need for your testing.
Pipettes are used to extract and transfer a measured volume of liquid between containers. A Serological pipette has graduated marks listed all the way up the pipette to allow measuremnt of a continuum of volumes. Volumetric pipettes only have one measurement marked on them indicating a single, specific volume. However, while volume specific, volumetric pipettes are more accurate than the serological pipettes.
Flasks and beakers are used for mixing, transporting, and reacting, but not for making accurate vliume measurements. They are accurate (to within about 5%) volume and volume marks are listed on the flasks/beakers. Volumtric Flasks, typically pear shaped with flat bottoms and elongated necks, are calibrated to contain an exact volume of liquid and are used for making precise dilutions and standard solutions. Erlenmeyer Flasks are typicaly conical in shape with flat bottoms and short, cylindrical necks and are used for mixing, heating, titrating, and reacting liquids. They have volumetric markings accurate to within about 5% but are not suitable for measuring volumes.
Graduated Cylinders (Cylinder Glass, or Hydrometer Jars) are for general use and not quantitative analysis. They are useful for measuring liquid volumes to within about 1% accuracy. If greater accuracy is needed, use a pipette or volumetric flask.
