Flasks and Beakers
Flasks and beakers are used for mixing, transporting, and reacting liquids, but not for making accurate volume measurements. They are accurate (to within about 5%) volume and volume marks are listed on the flasks/beakers. Volumtric Flasks, typically pear shaped with flat bottoms and elongated necks, are calibrated to contain an exact volume of liquid and are used for making precise dilutions and standard solutions. Erlenmeyer Flasks are typicaly conical in shape with flat bottoms and short, cylindrical necks and are used for mixing, heating, titrating, and reacting liquids. They have volumetric markings accurate to within about 5% but are not suitable for measuring volumes.
