Airlock for Variable Capacity Tank (1-5/8'' Hole)

These airlocks are OK for the money, but they "breathe" because they depend on gravity holding a glass marble down on to a hard plastic tube. The fit between the marble and plastic is sloppy. As the tank expands and contracts, they allow air back in. These are not a good choice for long term storage, but they are OK for the first 3 months while the wine is finishing. Id love to have a replacement fitting that could be corked once the fermentation is over. Additionally, these fittings screw on from the underside of the lid, so the wine is in-accessible without deflating the entire lid whereas a simple cork would allow the wine to be checked, and would create a tight seal.
I have gone to storing the bulk wine is 55 gallon SS barrels that allow blanketing gas to be put in and sealed tightly, or my wood barrel that does a fine job storing wine for up to 2 years.

I do like that you are asking for feedback on this product. Over the years I have learned that these airlocks do crack and split if you pump too much air into the tank. Since I worked with machinists many years ago, I think that someone should look into making a metal (S/S) airlock, or one with thicker plastic on the flange where the airlock goes into the hole.
Overall this is still a good product, but I think it can be improved.
I hope this will help in providing us wine makers with a better airlock design in the future.
Thanks,
Mike Kozak
