The Undiscovered Country package is made up of our unique, lesser known dry reds that are sure to intrigue and please your holiday guests this season.

4-Bottle Package - Includes 1 bottle of Dornfelder, 1 bottle of Blaufrankisch, 1 bottle of Noiret, and 1 bottle of Carmenere

Dornfelder.  Dornfelder is a wonderful wine that we think will play prominently in the next 50 years for our region and it is having its 40th Anniversary this year as a cultivated variety. This vintage was selected one of Pennsylvania's Top 10 Wines.  Our recent Dornfelders have also won many prestigious honors including Top 10 PA Wines in 2020, Double Gold at the 2019 San Francisco Chronicle Competition, and Pennsylvania’s Best Red and a 90 Rating from James Suckling in 2018. This relatively new German variety, not often found on American wine store shelves, grows wonderfully in our region and is a real must-try for all wine adventurers. Our Dornfelder was aged in both French and American oak barrels, boasting hints of rich berries and aromatic spices.  Ending in a pleasant dried-cherry and light tannin finish, this vintage can be enjoyed nicely on its own or paired with game and red meat cuts.

Blaufrankisch. Fresh herbs and orange peels float amongst the fruity characteristics of our Blaufrankisch, an Austrian variety that grows well in our region. French and American oak barrels add a medium, spicy oak finish that ends in an airy coconut appeal. This light to medium-bodied, dry red rounds out a nice, hearty stew or pasta with a tomato or vinegar-based sauce. This beautifully colored wine also makes a very nice base for sangria.

Noiret. This delightful dry red wine comes from a relatively newly developed French Hybrid wine grape variety. Noiret is one of the latest generation high-quality hybrids that are achieving character and refinement on par with vinifera.  Reminiscent of Shiraz, it is a true hidden gem and a definite must-try!  Now that you know the secret, sneak down the alley and knock to find yourself in a great Film Noiret! This incredible wine just scored an unheard of 100 Points in a CA competition!  Oak aging imparts smooth tannins that complement and enhance Noiret's characteristic berry, black pepper, and violet notes with a hint of smoky piñon. Try Noiret with classic Italian dishes or hot and spicy fare such as blackened fish or jambalaya.  100 Points, Platinum Award, and Best of Class at the Eastern International Wine Competition in Santa Rosa, CA.

Carménère. Another of our unique varietal offerings, Carménère is a wonderful, somewhat forgotten old Bordeaux red grape that survived the 1800’s European Phylloxera plague by its inadvertent importation to Chile where it was mistaken for Merlot. Still grown almost exclusively in Chile today, this delicious, under-the-radar grape is beginning to make its way to vineyards in Europe again as well as the U.S. Carménère is showing great promise in our local Lake Erie AVA vineyards and produces a robust and distinctive wine with smooth tannins and rich with smoky, blackberry, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate and white pepper notes.  Superb with red meats, especially those from the grill. Nothing better with a grilled lamb chop or picanha.
