Lake Erie Sweet Wines
Our unique region hugging the southern shore of Lake Erie has been a northern oasis of orchards and vineyards since the mid Nineteenth Century. Our farmers would take their prize grapes, cherries, peaches, and berries to the local train depot to load them onto the Lakeshore line trains and send them off to points east and west - New York, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago. Our area is where Welch's began and remains to this day its center of production for its famous grape juices and jams. The region's native Vitis labrusca grapes used in Welch's products - Concord, Niagara, Catawba - have long been mainstays in the vineyards of northwest Pennsylvania and many of our customers love the sweet, intensely fruity and grapey wines that are made from these grapes. To enhance, balance, and smoothen the distinctive, strong fruity aromas and flavors of these native varieties, we finish these wines with residual sweetness. We also have a line of blueberry based sweet wines taking advantage of our wonderful locally grown blueberries - the very best non-grape wine fruit we have found. Enjoy!
