This is our first release of Marquette. This relatively new variety developed as a cool climate grape at the University of Minnesota has shown great promise in our region. Always looking to try something different here at PIWC, this wine has been a fun and successful new adventure for us. Harvested by hand in early September, it was one of the first wines to be put into the barrel in 2012. We aged it for 6 months in used American oak barrels to let the wine develop without imparting overpowering oak flavor. Light ruby in color with hints of earth and ripe cranberries on the nose with a bright, extremely refreshing finish.
Serve well chilled with light weight meals or anytime you want to experience something new.

Out of all P.I.s dry reds this is my least favorite. Might be better if aged in newer oak barrels. My opinion is that this wine does not drink well on it's own. Well into my 3rd glass I was disappointed with the start and could not believe the lack-luster finish. BUT, when supper was ready and this wine hit the spices on my chicken, this high acid wine came alive in my mouth. If I were buying a bottle of wine to drink on it's own, this would not be the one. But if you want to feel the acidity in a red come to life in your mouth, this is worth a try. Pair this with anything spicy and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
